I received an iPad Pro for Christmas! Exciting, right! I opened it, set it up with all of my Apple information and then immediately started downloading all of the design apps that I had previously been crushing on; everything by Adobe and Paper by Fifty Three, which would prove to be my favorite design app to date. After playing with the Paper app for a few hours, I decided to purchase the Fifty Three Pencil as well, which connects to my iPad through a bluetooth connection. Wonderful! In the past, I have enjoyed working on projects where I work around an existing portrait. For me, there is something wonderful about working with the existing lines of a persons face and juxtaposition of their body. I have typically relied only relied on the point and click of my mouse to achieve the look I wanted. I’ve taken photos and ads from magazines I love (Elle, W, etc.) and have hand drawn over top of faces and exaggerated clothing, but I have never merged the two.
These three pieces were experiments that have opened the door to a new way of thinking about achieving the looks I’d like to create digitally. I’ve been impressed by those who are able to perfect this craft and I hope to be one of them.
